Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing a structures therapy that encourages the patient to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation(BLS) , which is associated with reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories.

EMDR’s goal is to help heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences. Best know for treating post-traumatic stress disorder, panic, anxiety, personality disorders.

How does EMDR works?

EMDR is thought to imitate the psychological state that patient enter when in rapid eye movement (REM) sleep.

Studies show that when in REM sleep we are able to make new associations between things very rapidly.

EMDR is designed to tap into this high-speed processing mode that we all have, helping the brain to process the unresolved memories and make them less distressing.

Disadvantages of the EMDR therapy:

-it only works with conditions related to traumatic experiences

– why it’s works is still theoretical
